Craft Brewery Profile: OCB Brewing Co.
At a little spot just off Route 18 in Whitman, Massachusetts, you’ll find the Old Colony Brewing Co. at Unit 1 on Bedford Street. Old Colony Brewing was the dream of four local homebrewers who, after five years of creating tasty hop concoctions at home, decided to join forces to give the community that birthed them their very own brewery, where everyone could enjoy fresh, great-tasting, locally crafted beer.
You don’t have to be from Whitman to enjoy an OCB beer, or even from Massachusetts, but you can feel the love of community all around when you’re sampling some of their favorites in this fun and friendly nano-brewpub that is just starting to find its stride.
What’s on Tap?
You can visit the Old Colony Brewing Co. for full pints, sample flights or growler fills of a variety of flavorful beers that OCB offers. Naturally, no craft brewery worth its name would be caught without a great IPA, and OCB has one, the appropriately named Happy Patriot IPA. If you’re interested in an American pale ale, the crisp and fruity Orange Pale Ale is an option. If you prefer a Belgian profile, Old Colony Brewing offers a tempting Farmhouse Ale.
For something just a bit darker, try the OCB Brown Ale, and if you want to move toward the lighter side of things, there’s the OCB First & Blonde. Old Colony Brewing also has a selection of seasonal beers for every time of year, from the Summery Poolside ale, to a Pumpkin Ale, to the Wintery Snow Day, to a deep and delicious Irish Red to welcome you into spring.
Make Sure to Catch …
… a Red Sox game, when they’re in season. Everyone knows two things that go together like peanut butter and jelly are beer and baseball, and the Old Colony Brewing Co. features some nice big-screen TVs so fans of the Sox can cheer on their heroes while enjoying some of OCB’s signature brews.
