Craft Brewery Profile: Battle Road Brewing Co.
The war on bad, boring beer is being fought every day at the Battle Road Brewing Co., where they brew a tasty range of craft beers with the independent, rebellious spirit that has made Boston such an important part of American history. Located just outside of Boston in Maynard, Massachusetts, the stated mission of this brewpub located in the historic Clock Tower Mill in Maynard is to “brew to satisfy those who are never satisfied.” If you’re on that list, you just may have found a brewhouse to call home.
Founder and brewmaster Jeremy Cross is happy to show the world the fruit of his 15-barrel brewing system, which you’ll find in a mill that was once the largest factory for wool production on Earth.
What’s on Tap?
To get into the historic, revolutionary spirit of the Battle Road Brewing Co., start with their flagship 1775 Tavern Ale, a spicy, earthy ale with Styrian Goldings hops and a nutty malt character. Once you’ve enjoyed one of those, you have a wide range of options to choose from. Naturally, there’s a local IPA, the Lexington IPA with a blend of Columbus, Mosaic, Azacca, Citra and Centennial hops and flavors of grapefruit, orange peel and pine.
For a Kolsch-style ale, try the Minuteman Gold, with a touch of fruitiness and a bit of spice. For something a little heavier, consider the Midnight Rider Porter, with aromas of coffee and campfire smoke, some chocolate and cherry wood-smoked malts and a hint of molasses, or the First Martyr Belgian Stout, with dark chocolate malt character and pear, bubblegum and plum flavors.
